Drill Hall House by Tobias Partners Architects

Drill Hall House is a 1905 former army drill hall in Leichhardt, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, adapted and updated as a relaxing home for new owners by Tobias Partners Architects in 2019.

We removed unsympathetic earlier additions to make way for contemporary insertions โ€“ and salvaged and restored original details โ€“ taking into consideration the existing form, site attributes and ownersโ€™ brief.

The arched brick entryway provides access directly into the hall, where living, dining and kitchen areas flow together, leading to a sunny terrace. Two new mezzanine loft spaces accommodate a guest suite and study, with private terraces set within the existing roofline.

Downstairs โ€“ at garden level โ€“ the lower ground floor was entirely rebuilt as the ownersโ€™ suite, which adjoins the large newly landscaped garden and upgraded pool area.
