Renovation of an ex Oil Mill by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba

It is a renovation of an ex Oil Mill located in Salento, Italy. The house is designed in 2013 by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba.

According to the architects,

This house is the result of a restoration project of an industrial building (a mill of 1600), is very charming when a site changes its skin, we loved being able to make domestic a space that once was productive.

It was a totally dark place and we have immediately imagined it flooded with light, so we decided to create an inner courtyard, as in a Moroccan riad, which was the centerpiece of the space and at the same time a filter from the outside world.

In the project we have maintained as values characteristic elements such as the open space on the ground floor, the vaulted ceilings, and we worked using local materials.
